Restorations and implants Canberra

Tooth restorations and dental implants

We work with the best-known Canberra periodontists and use a world-leading dental implant system to provide our patients with high quality tooth restorations.

Crowns and bridges

If a tooth is badly damaged but the root is still intact, we can perform a crown or bridge treatment to restore it.

A crown is also called a dental cap and is placed over your damaged tooth. It covers and protects what remains of your natural tooth and allows you to continue to smile and eat without fear of further decay.

Crowns can be made from:

  • porcelain (natural look)
  • stainless steel (usually a temporary option)
  • gold
  • titanium

A dental bridge is used when you have one or more missing teeth, but the surrounding teeth are strong and healthy. We can cement an artificial tooth (or teeth) to the adjacent strong teeth to close the gap and restore your natural smile.

Dental implants using the latest Straumann® technology

If your entire tooth is missing (meaning there is no root for a crown or the adjoining teeth aren’t strong enough for a bridge), a dental implant may be the best solution. Dental implants act as a replacement tooth root and are made from titanium.

Working with the best-known Canberra periodontists (surgeons), we can help you replace a missing tooth root with a high quality dental implant.

We trust the Straumann® Dental Implant System from the Straumann Group, based in Switzerland. Their proven implant technology is long-lasting and light-weight, and designed to complement the body’s natural systems.

How dental implants work

Dental implants are placed inside the gum where you have lost a tooth. Over a period of about 8 to 12 weeks, your body grows bone to connect with the implant which permanently cements it to your jaw.

Once this process is complete, we are able to build a crown or bridge over the implant which will stay in place for many years to come.

The dental implant process

We first need to see if you are suitable to have a dental implant, as there are medical conditions and social factors that need to be assessed. This involves an examination at our practice. If all is clear, we’ll arrange for a referral to a skilled periodontist who can confirm our assessment.

The periodontist is the one who will surgically insert the dental implant. We work closely with local implantologists who will explain how the procedure works and support you through it.

After 12 weeks, your implantologist will review the implant fixture. If they’re happy with it, you will return to our practice so we can take an impression of the area to insert a crown.

We work with one of the best-known laboratories in Canberra, and always use Straumann® Gold Abutment to achieve the best fitting and longest lasting results when restoring an implant.

Why choose us for your dental implant

Missing teeth can cause physical and emotional pain, and dental implants are often a great long-term solution.

Although the process takes a few months, the results could last you 20 years – which is a long time to be able to smile and eat with confidence.

We understand how important the dental implant process is to our patients, and take every measure to support them through the treatment with the ultimate care and compassion.
